Re: Where Do I Start - Tutoring and Loss of Electives

So I was told that if my daughter fails 5th grade staar test that she can't join the band next year in middle school or even play and instrument, is this correct? I was about to copy some of the better answers from the Facebook page for the archive here, but I can no longer find the question. Did y...

In the TTAAS group Jennifer Newsome Anderson posted that she was in Venus ISD. I do not know if she opted out, but you may want to send her a PM.

Re: Opt-Out Letter

You can certainly change that to assessments if you wish. The fact that the STAAR is an assessment is something that arises by virtue of the law and the name the legislature gives it, and not by what a school or parent in a letter decides to call it. But for purposes of consistence, there is nothing...

Re: refusal based on IEP goals and STAAR Material

Absolutely, the IEP should specifically provide that promotion will be determined by progress toward goals and not by performance on standardized assessments (STAAR). This is not a big deal in 3rd grade, but get the language in there now so in so called SSI grades (5 and 8) it is already there and y...

Re: Requirements to Sub TSI for EOCs

Isn’t this the rule that just recently changed that states you don’t have to fail an EOC in order to use the TSI as a substitute score? No. The Education Code has specific requirements to substitute the TSI. The new rule (which we prevented from BEING CHANGED) unfortunately does not and cannot alte...

Re: Opting out and passing grade

In Grades 5 and 8, students who do not take or pass STAAR are promoted based on grades by what is called the Grade Placement Committee. Usually between 90...
