My daughter is in 3rd grade at the school I’ve taught at for 10 years. We live out of district and she’s there on a “principal’s agreement” since we’re not zoned. Our school is saying that parents can only opt out if they select virtual the next 6-weeks. I have to teach F2F and can’t opt for virtual. I know that in the 18-19 school year HISD had an opt-out form (that you can still find on Google), should we still use that? Also, other than it putting me in a super-awkward position with admin, do you foresee any repercussions?

Anytime the student is not enrolled in their home campus, the receiving campus can choose to decline their return if they do something deemed unacceptable. Opting out could be a trigger on some campuses. I am not sure if the Houston ISD policy is still in effect under the takeover regime, but you can try that form. I would review that policy and see if it offered you any protections. I can't remember the specifics. But the bottom line is with a new regime, and a campus that is not your home campus, you should be aware of the potential for repercussions such as declining to re-enroll the student next year.
